A message to all LL parents about All Stars.
All Stars is where each league assembles its best players in each age division to play other teams from other leagues in the same division for the District Championship. The teams play a double elimination format. If they lose twice, their season is done. The District Champion then goes onto the State Tournament to play other District Champions in that age division for the State Championship. The winning team at State goes to Regionals to try to make it to Williamsport for the LL World Series.
In the time frame between when your child might be selected for the team and when they are done playing, the practice schedule and game schedule may be daily. Please be prepared to make the commitment.
Quite often families have made summer plans during this time frame without thinking about it. Every year I am asked “when are All Stars”. If you think your player might be selected or has been selected in the past, the answer is mid-June to end of July depending on the age division. The older age divisions have to be done by mid-July as their schedule has to match up to the Little League national schedule.
If your player is involved in another BB or SB organization, this too creates a conflict with your community’s team. Little League Intl. has been playing All Stars in this same time frame for over 75 years and other sports organizations could learn to alter their schedules to help more kids play. The Little League schedule can’t change because of the International portion of the schedule and the only true World Series in Williamsport in August.
My advice to you, as a past parent of 2 All Star players, plan your vacation time later. After all these are some very shorts years in your life with your player. It will all be done in a few years (let me tell you) and then you can plan your vacations for whenever.
Here are some approx. time frames by age:
13/14 BB & SB will be played end of June to 1st week of July. If your team wins District, then the State tournament would follow the following week.
11/12 BB & SB will be played end of June to 2nd week of July. If your team wins District, then the State tournament would follow the following week.
9/10 BB & SB will be played early July to 3rd week of July. If your team wins District, then the State tournament would follow the following week.
50/70 BB is played by end of June to the first week of July. If your team wins, then the State tournament would follow the following week.
